Martin Hellman co-invented the public key cryptography method that revolutionized online security — and e-commerce — by enabling two parties to securely communicate over an insecure channel.
In this webinar, hosted by MxD as part of its CyberSecure Supplier Program, Hellman explains how it worked with a few simple diagrams.
He also flagged a problem: Too many legitimate emails from institutions asking people to click-through.
“I joke that my banks are training me to fall for phishing expeditions,” Hellman said. “How often do you get an email from your bank saying, ‘Click here to see your statement’? They shouldn’t be doing that.”
Instead, Hellman said, banks should be instructing customers to go to the bank’s website and login. “I always go to my bookmark for that bank.”
